The promise given to Abraham is reaffirmed to Isaac (Gen. 26:2–4) and to Jacob (Gen. 28:13–15). Isaac and Jacob are righteous before God, as was their father/grandfather Abraham, by faith in the promise: “Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness” (Gen. 15:6). As noted above, this verse from Genesis is quoted by Paul in Galatians 3:6–8. David pleads, “Do not bring your servant into judgment, for no one living is righteous before you [God]” (Ps. 143:2).
